This is the enduring legacy of the Obama campaign. I'm not saying this to be inflammatory, I blame Barack Obama because he allowed his surrogates in the media and Hollywood and everyone else on the left to do this dirty talking for him.
In today's age of Right-wing impotence and rage, it seems there's nothing that can't somehow be blamed on Barack Obama...who, unbeknownst to me, is apparently the single source of all that's Evil. Even worse, he's quietly managed to co-opt David Letterman (and other flaming Media Lefties) and convinced him to act as his mouthpiece. Man, is this guy good, or what?? Then again, the most effective Evil is usually so subtle as to be virtually undetectable, no?
I'm not going to offer an opinion on Letterman's joke. It is what it is, and you can take it for that, or you can choose to be offended by it. Your choice. I don't care. The job of a comedian is to push the edge of acceptability and in doing so get us to look at things differently. Sometimes it works, and we laugh. Sometimes it doesn't, and some folks choose to wax self-righteous with canned, practiced outrage. Whatever....
What DOES offend me is that idea that Cupp can somehow in all seriousness hold President Obama responsible for one of David Letterman's failed jokes (and, really, what was so bad about it?). Of course, if I followed Cupp's twisted excuse for logic, I could conceivably hold her responsible for George W. Bush's eight-year Reign of Error ©. Hey, it makes about as much sense....
I'm not saying this to be inflammatory...but if it DOES turn out to be inflammatory, hey, that can be blamed on President Obama just as easily. Man, it must be nice living in Cupp's world, where everything is black and white, right or wrong, Republicans still rule the world, and Liberals are still evil, blood-sucking drags on the American Dream.
If nothing else, Cupp's insulting attempt at equivalency merely serves to illustrate just how impotent and frustrated the Far Right is these days. Out of power and out of ideas, Conservative like Cupp are left to flail away impotently as they look for something- anything- that might gain them some traction. If it takes positing that Barack Obama is ghostwriting jokes for David Letterman, then so be it. That Cupp ends up looking like a blithering idiot and a rank amateur in the process seems not to matter- ANY face time is good face time, eh? Media whores don't care about anything else ensuring that they're paid attention to. If takes being inflammatory to get the desired television face time, well, it's not as if she's making her living on her back, eh?
I'd like to say I find Cupp's frothing at the mouth humorous, but mostly it's just beneath contempt, not tomention silly in the extreme. Conservatives like Cupp seem not to grasp the reality that what they're engaging in these days is little more than mental masturbation and self-parody. They may be out of ideas, but they're certainly not lacking for unfocused, self-righteous anger. It might actually be somewhat amusing...if impotent, frustrated sorts like Cupp didn't take themselves so seriously.
