Portland Mayor Sam Adams won't be facing criminal charges for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with an underage male. Well, THAT certainly makes me feel better. At least the Mayor's not a pedophile, eh? 'Course, he's still a liar who manipulated the truth to his advantage before and after he was elected. That Sam Adams has displayed himself to be devoid of anything resembling integrity ought to be enough to convince Portland that their mayor needs to go. Sadly, it seems that doing the right thing appears to be something Adams is incapable of. Adams has somehow managed to convince himself that he can still be effective, that he can lead Portland and still be taken seriously enough to accomplish what he initially set out to do. That he's become an embarrassment to Portland clearly seems not to have registered.Great; so
As of July 1st, those who want to recall Adams can legally begin their effort to do so. I'm still not sure about a recall, because I'm still trying to sort out the ideological underpinnings of those behind the effort. That aside, Adams needs to wake up and smell the cat litter. It's time to do the right thing by the city he professes to love and resign before his constituents do the resigning for him.
Time was, and not so very long ago, when the idea of Sam Adams as mayor held a great deal of promise for Portland. Now, through his lack of judgment, absence of integrity, and a defective zipper, he's shown himself to be just another lying politician who's convinced himself that the rules don't apply to him.
It's time to do the right thing, Mayor. Resign while you still have some dignity. Don't make the voters of Portland do it for you. Or do you really believe that accountability is for lesser mortals?
