Repeat a lie often enough...and it's still a lie

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX)

Of course, Obama was born in America and his birth certificate is widely available on the Internet. In response to an avalanche of conspiracy theories fabricated largely by Fox News and various right-wing media outlets, FactCheck.org has extensively researched the issue and provided Obama's birth announcement in the Honolulu Advertiser, a copy of the certificate with a raised seal, and the stamp of Hawaii state registrar Alvin T. Onaka. But the truth has not deterred radicals like Posey and Neugebauer from attempting to cast Obama as some sort of illegitimate foreigner. World Net Daily, a conservative site highly supportive of Posey's efforts, has begun fund raising to place billboards around the country questioning Obama's citizenship.

When you're the self-styled "Loyal Opposition", there's a certain responsibility that comes with the role. Yes, you can be contrary, and you can work against the program being put forth by the majority party; that's what "opposition" means. Just because you're completely devoid of ideas, though...well, that doesn't mean you have the perfect right to engage in slander, character assassination, and/or propaganda designed to distort and deceive.

If Barack Obama was a White male, you can bet that there would be no discussion of his citizenship. No one would be discussing passing legislation requiring candidates for federal office to produce their birth certificate. Since Obama isn't a member of the majority race, though, there are those out there willing to do and say anything to ensure that White males maintain their political power and dominance. This is how you end up with mental midgets like Randy Neugebauer, who feels threatened by have a non-White President and therefore sees nothing wrong with resurrecting the canard that President Obama isn't an American citizen. Except he really isn't questioning the President's citizenship...but neither is he above planting the seeds of doubt. Never mind that this "issue" has long since been debunked and resolved.

Q: So you believe the President is a US citizen?

NEUGEBAUER: You know I don't know. I've never seen him produce documents that would say one way or another.

And doesn't it just figure that this idjit's from Texas, the same state that brought you 20+ years of Tom DeLay?? That a knuckle-dragging troglodyte like Neugebauer can even get himself elected only demonstrates that the voters in his district are (&^%$#@ idiots who likely are behind him 100% on this "issue".

I don't know how often the "question" of Barack Obama's citizenship has to be resolved in order for the Fox Noise Channel addicts to figure it out. Obama was born in Hawaii. His birth certificate has been verified as true and authentic, and there should no longer be any question that the President is an American citizen. Hey, at least he was born on American soil. John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone, and by the letter of the law should have been ineligible to run for President. Oddly enough, there were no peals of righteous indignation emanating from the wackjobs on the right over McCain's birthplace.

Oh, right...McCain's White...and he's a Republican, so he's OK. Barack Obama? A Liberal Democrat...AND a black man? In the White House? That's just not right....
