Mark Muller, the president of Max Motors in Missouri, is offering a gift certificate for a Kalashnikov AK-47 rifle to anyone who purchases a pick-up truck. Muller, whose business slogan is "God, Guns, Guts, and American Pick-Up Trucks," said the response to the offer has been very strong. "There is a lot of worry about crime, we have a methamphetamine problem around here and people just want to protect themselves," said Muller.
I understand that America is the country that invented clever and creative marketing tricks. After all, one ought to be able to do what they think appropriate to attract attention and business. That's what advertising (and free enterprise) is all about, no? Then again, no matter how laissez faire I may be, even I can't understand how this silliness is allowed to stand unanswered. So the idea here is to put an automatic rifle into the hands of people, some of whom still equate "Liberal" with "Communist"...and whose thought processes rarely extend beyond mapping out a path to the refrigerator for another Budweiser?
I'm not going to insult or demean people who happen to think differently than I do, but I do have to wonder how any rational human being could even begin to think that this sort of silliness is anything remotely close to being a good idea. To give away assault weapons, whose sole purpose is to kill human beings, in the name of God and ideology would seem to invite legitimate concerns about the IQs of those involved. Not to mention their humanity.
Really, y'all; when has Barack Obama...or anyone in his Administration...said anything that would legitimately indicate an intent or desire to take away your guns? Or are all y'all willing to swallow anything that just happens to fit your narrow, fear-based prejudices? OMIGOD!!! THERE'S A BLACK MAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!! AND HE'S A LIBRUL!!! And y'all know that dem g-----n Libruls are gonna take our guns, right?
'Course, it IS easier (and a lot more fun) to react emotionally than to consider the issue rationally. No doubt Muller and his ilk are the same sort of intellectual midgets who are convinced that Barack Obama is not actually a US citizen...and therefore an illegitimate President. Then again, ignorance of reality is no hindrance when you have no grip on said reality to begin with.
I suppose if you're going to live in mortal fear of those who look, think, act, and believe differently than you do, perhaps having an AK-47 is a good thing. A wise friend of mine once opined that automatic weapons are really only useful to those compensating for having a small penis. I have no idea if that correlation holds up to scrutiny...and I'm not about to investigate...but I do have to wonder just what it is folks like Mark Muller are compensating for.
BTW...we have a huge methamphetamine problem here in the Portland area...and yet I haven't noticed people expressing the need (or desire) to obtain automatic weapons for protection from tweakers. Just a thought....
