SCHEUER: No, sir, they will not. Not -- the only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States. Because it's going to take a grassroots, bottom-up pressure, because these politicians prize their office, prize the praise of the media and the Europeans. Only -- it's an absurd situation. Again, only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently, and with as much violence as necessary.
There are few things I find more despicable in American public life than the willingness from some on the Far Right to exploit 9.11 and terrorism in general for political gain. Fear mongering is a damn poor persuasive tool...and yet in far too many cases it's the only tool in the neoConservative tool box. Michael Scheuer is merely the latest in a long line of Right-wing tools willing to engage in any and all manner of rhetorical excess and fear mongering. Nothing shows how desperate the Right is, or just how little ammunition they have, than cretins like Scheuer. That he could wish suffering, deprivation, and death upon Americans simply so he can be free to make a political point is beyond despicable.
I have no problem with Scheuer speaking his mind and airing his beliefs. This is, after all, a free country, and, as I've said many times before, free speech can be- and often is- offensive speech. That doesn't mean that good and decent Americans sick of the lunacy and the fear mongering have to take this $#!& lying down, though. WE DESERVE BETTER...if only more of us would stand up and demand it. I'm just trying to do my part.
Sadly, the freedom of speech and expression also means the freedom to be a (&^%$#@ maroon. Then again, for some cretins any TV face time is good TV face time, no? By appearing with The Dumbest (&^%$#@ Human Being on the Face of the Planet © , Michael Scheuer probably just made himself a boatload of money...and isn't that really what most neoConservative fear mongers care about?
Michael Scheuer would openly and happily welcome another terrorist attack on American soil because it would "validate" him and his sick, depraved political outlook. Hey, as long as someone else is doing the suffering and the dying, what's the problem? It doesn't take a Ph.D. to understand that Scheuer long ago forfeited anything resembling decency and humanity. May he be caught in the midst of the terrorist attack he so eagerly anticipates...and may he roast in the Hell he so richly deserves.
