Things I might be thinking if someone hadn't kept me up late

It's a cold, rainy Portland morning, and after being up a bit too late last night, I'm finding myself short on inspiration. This seems a good time, then, to give voice to some issues and concerns I've found myself pondering lately. No particular order or thought process involved, just a random mind dump....

  • How is it that a person can go to a bar, get falling-down blind drunk, and be seen as the life of the party...while a person who smokes a joint in the privacy of their own home is a felon liable to hard time in a federal lockup? Why is the idea of legalizing marijuana still taboo?

  • How can a "news" outlet that engages in blatant Right-wing propaganda and fear-mongering be accepted as legitimate and "fair and balanced" by so many Americans? Are we really that phenomenally stupid?

  • Only in Portland will you find motorists seriously claiming to be suffering "motorist discrimination", in which their interests are subverted to those of bicyclists. You just because you don't get what you want whenever you want...well, that doesn't exactly meet the "discrimination" test, knowhutimean??

  • How is it that serving vegetarian food in our schools can be seen as a threat to Our Way of Life ©, but spewing ignorance, hatred, character assassination, fear-mongering, and sheer, unbalanced Right-wing lunacy isn't? How can this madness reasonably be seen as the legitimate expression of free speech?

  • You know, if more people approached being married with this much love and humor, I can't help but wonder if we'd have fewer divorces? I mean, how bad can it be when watching the Food Network is a guilty pleasure? It's not like she's boinking the postman....

Now, if you'll excuse me, my coffeepot is singing it's siren song, and I'm being lured by the promise of more caffeine. Since sex, drugs, and rock & roll aren't options this morning, I'll take the caffeine.

Have a good day, y'all.... ;-)
