When in doubt, flaunt your faith, ignorance, and ideological fealty

Texas Governor Rick Perry joked on Wednesday that Al Gore has "gone to hell.".... While speaking to a builders group in Dallas, Perry was asked about his relationship with the former vice president.... "Did you get religion? Did he get religion?" a man in the crowd asked. "What has happened since then?" The Republican governor used to be a Democrat; he worked for Gore's presidential campaign in 1988.... "I certainly got religion," Perry said. "I think he's gone to hell."

I disagree sharly with those who deny the reality of global climate change...no real surprise there. Where I really take offense is with those who ridicule those of us who recognize that science is not merely something to be massaged and manipulated to fit someone's ignorance and pre-conceived notions. It doesn't take a Ph.D. to look around and realize that greenhouse gases are fundamentally changing the world we live in...and not for the better. Yet despite ample anecdotal evidence to support the idea that global climate change is real, there are those who not only deny, they laugh it off and ridicule those who actually manage to look at the issue with an open mind.

Rick Perry is a shining example of the sort of ignorant, self-absorbed, and self-important leader concerned only with what they believe. Fact, reality, and objective evidence be damned, Perry and his ilk proceed down the same path, oblivious to and ignorant of the risks inherent in their irresponsibility. Instead of paying attention to what the science is saying, instead of trying to determine how to show some leadership in addressing the issue of global climate change, Governor Goodhair persists on acting as if nothing is amiss and ridiculing those who believe that we need to be better stewards of what we have.

Then again, if you believe that followers of Jesus Christ are destined to be raptured anyway, why would anyone have any incentive to change their behavior? Why would a good Christian worry about the environment when they know they're not going to be around to deal with the consequences of our irresponsibility? Why preach conservation and responsibility when you know you're going to be in a better place?

Worrying about global warming is for Libruls and godless heathens, anyway....
