Over the past few days, I've fascinated by the clusterf--k involving Conan O'Brien, Jay Leno, and NBC. No, it's not that I particularly care who hosts what or when (I rarely watch late-night television). What captivates me is the spectacle of grown men airing their dirty laundry on television. Egos, hurt feelings, and insults are being splattered over any available media outlet, and it's just about the silliest thing going. Whether it's Leno, O'Brien, of Jeff Zucker, everyone involved feels the need to demonstrate that theirs is bigger, and if this means acting like children for public consumption, then so be it.
In a way, it's quite entertaining watch what passes for negotiation at NBC play itself out, because everyone involved seems to feel they have the right to trash someone. We're talking about people who make obscene amounts of money for hosting a TV show? Meanwhile, those of us here in the real world live in an economy where unemployment is at 10%. Some of us consider ourselves fortunate to have an income. Not so very far away, Haiti has been devastated by an earthquake, thousands are dead...and these maroons are consumed by who's going to be hosting a TV show when?? Jeebus, y'all; get a grip, willya??
I'm sure there are people who actually care about this silliness, but to me it's indicative of just how spoiled and immature some of us can be. Regardless of what happens, no one involved in this pointless saga is going to be worrying about where there next Big Mac is coming from. Get over yourselves, already....
