Lies, damn lies...and Republican propaganda

(thanks to David Flanders for this one)

The Republican Party is seeking input and money from GOP voters -- seemingly under the guise of the U.S. Census Bureau.... "Strengthening our Party for the 2010 elections is going to take a massive grass-roots effort all across America. That is why I have authorized a Census to be conducted of every Congressional District in the country," GOP Chairman Michael Steele says in a letter mailed nationwide. The letter was sent in plain white envelopes marked "Do Not Destroy, Official Document." Labeled "2010 Congressional District Census," the letter uses a capital "C," the same as the Census Bureau. It also includes a "Census Tracking Code."

COLBERTPURITY-large.jpgWhen Republicans begin bleating about restoring integrity to government...or whatever the code words of the moment happen to be...you might want to listen. I mean REALLY listen. Odds are that you're being lied to. How can you tell? Well, if their lips are moving, you an rest assured that the truth is probably taking a beating.

That there are people out there stupid enough to be taken in by this sort of thing is bad enough. That Republicans are willing and able to exploit this ignorance and lack of intellectual dexterity is beyond reprehensible. That they then have the temerity to claim the mantle of integrity is enough to make any decent, fair-minded person toss their Corn Flakes. Problem is, most Americans just can't be bothered to pay attention...and so they latch onto whatever dishonest propaganda sticks to the wall.

Lies and propaganda are currency to the GOP, a means to an end. That they'll lie and propagandize the American Sheeple in pursuit of power and the protection of their definition of integrity should be fodder for ridicule. The problem, of course, is that a significant number of Americans simply can't be bothered to pay attention. Even if they are, far too many are willing to believe whatever vile, meaningless propaganda the Republican National Committee throws in their direction. They won't believe a thing that comes out of Barack Obama's mouth, but anything that spews from Michael Steele's lips is accepted as Gospel. And you wonder why I call them the American Sheeple....

WE DESERVE BETTER....
