Please stop using Jesus as an excuse to be an ass

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Miss Beverly Hills 2010 Lauren Ashley

“The Bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman. In Leviticus it says, ‘If man lies with mankind as he would lie with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death and their blood shall be upon them.’ The Bible is pretty black and white,” Ashley told Pop Tarts…. “I feel like God himself created mankind and he loves everyone, and he has the best for everyone. If he says that having sex with someone of your same gender is going to bring death upon you, that’s a pretty stern warning, and he knows more than we do about life.”

I don’t begrudge Lauren Ashley to hold whatever views she happens to think appropriate. This is, after all, a free country, and I’ll defend Ashley’s right to her beliefs and to speak her mind to my dying breath. Of course, just because I’m defending her rights…well, that hardly means I have to keep my powder dry if she’s a blithering idiot. In Ashley’s case, there’s absolutely no reason not to open fire with both barrels. Bigotry is abhorrent, no matter how it happens to disguise itself. In Ashley’s case, there seems to have been no attempt whatsoever to disguise anything. For someone in her position to condone the condemning of homosexuals to death is beyond repulsive.

Even more repulsive is Ashley’s use of the “Oh, but some of my best friends are gay” argument, followed by the declaration that she doesn’t hate anyone. So, the idea of condemning homosexuals to death is a purely abstract concept, then? Never mind the fact that are many in this country who feel exactly as she does…and who would happily enforce their bigotry were it within their power to do so. Apparently, Carrie Prejean has made it fashionable and acceptable for brain-dead beauty queens to spew their hatred without a care in the world. And Fox Noise Channel is more than happy to give her views a far wider audience than they deserve.

Would it be too much to expect beauty queens to recognize and understand that their role is not to hold forth on the pressing issues of the day? That their job is largely to look good in a swimsuit and perpetuate the time-honored role of women as sex objects intended for the pleasure and gratification of men? That opening their mouth will lead to nothing good? Eh, apparently it IS expecting a bit much. Better to be thought a bigot and a fool than to be Lauren Ashley….
