No, I'm not a traitor to the cause...just a realist

I've been a Mac for years, and I'm not afraid to admit it. I'm one of the loons who would buy a toaster oven if Steve Jobs had blessed it with an Apple logo. I've loved my MacBook with everything I have, but the time has come to replace it. I've been wrestling for months with the question of what comes next. Of course, it would be an Apple Computer of some flavor...right? Ah, therein lies my dilemma....

I've had my eyes on a MacBook Pro for some time now, but I've had to wrestle with the reality that I'd pay close to three times as much for one as I would for a PC. Being newly unemployed, I have to remember to act as if my money isn't a renewable resource, because right now it isn't. After giving the matter a good deal of thought, I finally broke down and realized that buying a PC would give me what I need at a far lower cost. With that in mind, I broke down and bought a Toshiba L505 laptop. I got a computer, a backpack, AND an Epson printer for under $600. I used a Dell laptop at my last job for years, so it's not as if I'm unfamiliar with PCs, but they're not as "sexy"...whatever that means. The reality is that I have a 16" HD display, a 320 GB hardrive...and it will do exactly what I need it to do. Frankly, all I really use a computer for is writing and surfing the Internet. Why would I pay three times more for the privilege?

Not being a technically proficient sort, I've been working my way through some of the challenges of setting up a new PC. So far, it hasn't been too bad, but in trying to transfer my iTunes library, I get a message that tells me I'm synced to another library, and so I can only transfer the music I've purchased from iTunes. This means that I can't transfer about 1/3 of my music. If any of y'all have any ideas about how I can get around this problem, please feel free to email me. I know there's probably a simple solution available, but finding it seems to be above my pay grade.

Memo to Steve Jobs: I would have loved to purchase another Mac. Unfortunately, your inability (or refusal) to compete on price means that I really had no choice but to buy a PC. It wasn't my preference, but I simply couldn't justify buying a Mac when a PC will do what I need at close to 1/3 the price.

If you were serious about gaining market share and making Macs more accessible, you'd find a way to sell a laptop that would compete with PCs on price. Sadly, you've apparently determined that you're OK with Macs continuing to be seen as elitist and overpriced. So here I am on my new PC. Sorry, but you had your chance, and I don't have money to burn.

Better luck next time....
