A communique from Crybaby Nation

It’s a basic tenet of American democracy- majority rules. You go to the ballot box, you cast your vote, and the candidate who gets the most votes wins. The political party who wins the most races also wins a majority. So it has been for 200+ years, and so it shall continue to be…unless a vocal minority of knuckle-dragging troglodytes succeed in what they view as a holy Crusade to force their ignorant, fear-based agenda upon us all.

During the eight years that Republicans sat on top of the political mountain, no one on the Far Right said “Boo!”. Now that Democrats rule the roost (and a…GASP!!…black man sits behind the desk in the Oval Office), the Apocalypse is upon us, and the only solution is violent revolution? Did those of us on the Left throw bricks through the windows of Republican Congressional offices? Did we blithely toss of racial and homophobic slurs at Republican Congressmen?

If you believe in democracy, you understand that American politics is cyclical in nature. If the party you support is in the minority, you work to reverse that trend. Eventually, things come around, and what was once the minority becomes the majority. This is how democracy maintains something resembling balance, and it’s one of the things, along with the rule of law, that separates from police states.

Politically-motivated violence and physical intimidation have no place in American politics. To some, what’s being done by teabaggers across the country borders on domestic terrorism. No matter what sick rationale is used to justify violence and destruction of property, it’s not “watering the tree of liberty”. It’s petty vandalism, criminal mischief…and yes, perhaps even domestic terrorism.

Memo to those angry, misguided fools who feel justified in resorting to violence: the rule of law is designed to protect all Americans from people like you. Intimidation and violence should have no place in American public life, and if you think differently, you should be prepared to (deservedly) be put away behind bars for a good, long time. Allowing your heart and soul to be blackened by fear, ignorance, and hatred is a personal choice, albeit a sad and unfortunate one. Acting on that vitriol is another thing entirely, and one that should justifiably separate you from your right you walk this Earth as a free person.

If you’re ignorant enough to seriously think that those of us on the Left are looking to enslave good, decent, God-fearing Americans such as yourself…well, there’s not much I can do for you. If you’ve convinced yourself of what is demonstrably untrue, then you’re pretty much a lost cause. If you possessed even the barest shred of intellectual honesty, you’d admit that we have far more to fear from your ignorant, reactionary, fear-based world view than we ever have from you. Then again, one man’s tyranny is another’s liberty, no? Not that you really have any idea of what liberty actually means.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
