A good reason why "Christian" and "militia" don't belong in the same sentence

DETROIT — Nine suspects tied to a Christian militia that was preparing for the Antichrist were charged with conspiring to kill police officers, then attack a funeral using homemade bombs in the hopes of killing more law enforcement personnel, federal prosecutors said Monday. The Michigan-based group, called Hutaree, planned to use the attack on police as a catalyst for a larger uprising against the government, according to newly unsealed court papers. U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said agents moved on the group because its members were planning a violent mission sometime in April.

I may not know a lot…but I can guaran-damn-tee you that I’m smart enough to know that “Christian” and “militia” are two words that should be considered oxymorons- like “slightly” and “pregnant”. The ignorant fools who call themselves “Hutaree” (Aramaic for “those who were dropped on their heads at birth”) are as much about Christianity in the same way that Islamofascists are about Islam. They may think it’s about religion, but what we have here is little more than a religious cult, and thankfully a very small and not particularly stealthy one.

Law enforcement may have stomped on the threat posed by the Hutaree before their plans could come to fruition, but I can’t help but wonder how many more groups like them are out there? Will they look at this episode and draw the lessons necessary to ensure they don’t attract the attention of law enforcement? And will they be able to do what the Hutaree wanted to but could not? In time, I believe the answer will be “yes”…and it will be largely because of our collective refusal to believe that the biggest threat to our security doesn’t come from swarthy Islamofascists but good, “God-fearing” White folks within our own borders. Domestic terrorism is and will likely remain a far bigger threat than anything we face from outside our borders. Still, it’s difficult to believe that people who look like we do could commit acts of terrorism directed at the fellow Americans.

Americans killing Americans over religious and/or political beliefs? Who would have ever thought we could sink this low?
