Say hello to this week’s second repeat “winner”, who, like Randy Neugebauer, is also from Texas. Maybe it’s the water….
Neugebauer may be an empty suit, but that would be a serious upgrade for Louie Gohmert, who’s nothing if not a walking, talking exercise in self-parody. His latest crusade? How about doing away with the 17th Amendment…you know, the one that allows for direct election of Senators? Yes, Gohmert wants to do away with the silly notion that the American Sheeple should elect their own Senators. I’m not certain what he plans to replace the process with…perhaps noblesse oblige, or lifetime sinecures granted by the reigning Republican monarch, or a Star Chamber led by himself, Steve King, Randy Neugebauer, and Michele Bachmann? It would certainly reduce the possibility of a Democratic majority, no? Yes, democracy is such a messy, unpredictable business….
When Gohmert isn’t introducing resolutions endorsing an Israeli military strike against Iran, bringing photos of an abortion to a Tea Party rally, or claiming that Democrats are hoping for a terrorist attack so they can pass a new jobs bill, he’s trying to undermine American democracy. Yeah, the problem with democracy is that it’s SO hard to ensure a Republican majority, so why not take the uncertainty out of the process altogether?
Gohmert may be an intellectual and moral midget of the first order, but the good, God-fearing Republicans of his east Texas district elected him. So who’s the biggest loser? Well, how about the American Sheeple who have to suffer fools like Gohmert?
