Neugebauer (n.): Latin for "ignorant cretin", also an argument for abortion

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX)

“Last night was the climax of weeks and months of debate on a health care bill that my constituents fear and do not support. In the heat and emotion of the debate, I exclaimed the phrase ‘it’s a baby killer’ in reference to the agreement reached by the Democratic leadership. While I remain heartbroken over the passage of this bill and the tragic consequences it will have for the unborn, I deeply regret that my actions were mistakenly interpreted as a direct reference to Congressman Stupak himself…. I have apologized to Mr. Stupak and also apologize to my colleagues for the manner in which I expressed my disappointment about the bill. The House Chamber is a place of decorum and respect. The timing and tone of my comment last night was inappropriate.”

One of the things that I firmly believe about our democracy is that we’re all ultimately on the same team. We’re all Americans. We all want great things for our country, and we all want America to remain the great and powerful nation it still is. Why is it, then, that some on the Far Right see themselves as the ultimate and only arbiter of all that’s good, right, and holy? Why is their belief system the only truth? How is it that they can seriously and honestly elevate their morality and prejudices above all who think, believe, and live differently than they do?

Randy Neugebauer, a non-entity in Congress and an empty suit if ever there was one, is merely the latest intolerant zelaot to have a Joe Wilson moment. It seems that, if you’re a Far Right Conservative, you view yourself as singularly possessing the inalienable right to hurl invective at those who happen to be heading in a different ideological direction.

And doesn’t it just figure that Neugebauer hails from Texas, the world capitol of brain-dead, Jesus-y Conservatism? Yippie-ki-yay, y’all….

What’s truly ironic about this is that Rep. Nonentity’s outburst was directed at Bart Stupak, a Democrat in Name Only who had trying to nail healthcare reform to the cross of his anti-abortion crusade. Uh…who’s trying to force what down the throats of Americans, anyway??

Ultimately, I suppose all this episode really demonstrates is the Conservative Republicans and the Tea Party movement really are joined at the hip. Frankly, they deserve one another….

WE DESERVE BETTER.
