Human stupidity: now with rich, creamy racist goodness!

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Rep. Brian Bilbray (R-CA)

Discussing Arizona’s pending profiling bill on “Hardball,” Chris Matthews challenged Bilbray to cite a “non-ethnic aspect” by which law enforcement agents could identify illegal immigrants. “They will look at the kind of dress you wear, there is different type of attire, there is different type of — right down to the shoes, right down to the clothes,” Bilbray replied. Of course, law enforcement wouldn’t detain people based solely on clothing, Bilbray said. They also know to look out for the ways in which illegal immigrants just act illegal…. “It’s mostly behavior, just as the law enforcement people here in Washington, D.C. does it based on certain criminal activity,” he told Matthews. “There is behavior things that professionals are trained in across the board, and this group shouldn’t be exempt from those observations as much as anybody else [sic throughout].”

stupid_people.jpgEvery now and again, as I begin mentally approaching the point where I begin thinking that I just might finally have plumbed the depths of human stupidity, I’m reminded all over again that we’re talking about a barrel with no discernible bottom. How else do you explain Rep. Bilbray’s weak, brain-dead defense of Arizona’s “Of Course It’s About Brown People” bill? Given that we’re talking about a piece of legislation that with the stroke of the Governor’s pen will turn Arizona into our first official police state and violates just about every standard of decency and dignity…well, I’m at a loss here.

At it’s most basic, the bill is a masterpiece of down-the-rabbit-hole legislative lunacy. What I find most amusing is that police will be sued by Brown People for being stopped for Breathing While Brown. If they fail to do this, police can be sued by Arizonans for NOT stopping Brown People for Breathing While Brown. Damned if you do. Damned if you don’t. Suddenly, John McCain doesn’t really stand out as a lone, unbalanced wack job, does he? Nosirree…he’s gots LOTS of company in the Arizona legislature.

And then there’s Rep. Bilbray, who makes these folks look like Ph.D. candidates….

‘Course, I can sort of understand where Bilbray is coming from. If you can’t formulate a policy that fairly and honestly addresses the issues behind immigration- illegal and otherwise- than I’d imagine it’s a helluva lot easier to just demonize those who look and speak differently. After all, if these folks were REAL Americans, they’d be White and they’d speak English, right?

I wonder if Rep. Bilbray understands just how broadly his theory can be misinterpreted and misapplied? It’s not at all out of the realm of possibility that his theory could be used to criminalize and oppress an entire class of people he likely didn’t have in mind before verbally vomiting all over Chris Matthews: White teenage boys. Anyone who has a 14-year-old boy at home knows EXACTLY what I’m talking about….
