Better to be thought a sexist and a misogynist than to be Thomas Mitchell

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Thomas Mitchell

Bias is not a good thing. Right? We all agree on that, don’t we? People and candidates for public office should be judged on the basis of their ideas, stance on the issues, character, experience and integrity, not on the basis of age, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion or disability. Therefore, we must repeal the 19th Amendment. Yes, the one granting suffrage to women. Because? Well, women are biased. Just look at the poll results in today’s newspaper. Men favored the attractive former beauty queen Sue Lowden over the graying Harry Reid by 22 points, while women shunned their gender mate, choosing Reid by a 2-point margin. Which proves women favor Democrats.

Wow, just when I’d begun to think that this sort of thing couldn’t POSSIBLY happen here in the enlightened 21st century, there it was. Thomas Mitchell, the editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal is seriously advocating repealing the 19th Amendment. You remember that amendment, right? The one that gave women the right to vote? Yep, Mitchell has decided that women should be stripped of the right to vote for the crime of being…insufficiently Republican? Apparently, women in Nevada still support Harry Reid, which, to Mitchell’s way of thinking is nonsensical and just plain wrong. Then again, we all know that women are emotional, highly erratic, and incapable of making rational, reasoned decisions, right? So, following Mitchell’s theory, the only way to right this obvious wrong is to roll back the 19th Amendment and, presumably, go back to the era when women were the property of men.

Best of all, the logic he offers to buttress his argument is priceless, truly priceless:

Men are consistent. Women are fickle and biased.

So, because women in Nevada make up their own minds, because they’re not knee-jerk Conservatives who hate Democrats because…well, that’s what REAL Americans do, women have proven themselves unworthy of the right to vote? Never mind that women could fairly and logically make the reverse argument: Men react. Women consider the possibilities.

Things could be worse, though. You could be the woman who has to wake up next to Mitchell every morning. Imagine being sentenced to living your life with this blowhard. Don’t think for too long though; he’s probably expecting his dinner to be ready soon.
