Greetings from the set of Idiocracy II….
I don’t know much about Rand Paul…and I quite frankly don’t care too. What I have learned so far is that he’s just another smokescreen for powerful White interests who would wish to remake the world in their image and to their advantage. For a political figure to come out in this day and age and advocate- however obliquely- for discrimination is both abhorrent and offensive. The idea that no program getting public funds should be prevented from engagin in discrimination discrimination is ludicrous. Perhaps Paul slept through the Civil Rights Era, but not so very long ago in this country, African-Americans were held to be second-class citizens based solely on the color of their skin. Rand Paul would willingly acquiesce to reverting to a world that mirrors Dr. Suess’ “Starbellies”. Some people really ARE more equal than others, and Paul is apparently OK with perpetuating that travesty.
Those who do not know history are condemned to…oh, never mind….
The problem here is that Paul would accept a world in which exists a stratification of society based on wealth, skin color, religious belief, or any number of other reasons to hate and divide one person from another. Instead of trying to create an America where we can all get along and co-exist, Paul sees no reason why government should play ANY role in protecting those who for any number of reasons may be disadvantaged. Sorry, but from where I sit, government exists in large part to ensure equality…and there should be MORE effort made in this direction, not less.
If Paul’s victory can’t be taken as indication that ignorant, fearful, self-absorbed voters are rising up in hopes of creating their own private Idiocracy, I don’t know what could. When reaction and anger become the coin of the realm, politicians like Rand Paul will eventually become the face of the American body politic…and we will all be poorer for it.
‘Course, if you’re rich, White, and Republican, what do you have to worry about??
