Hatred: helping to put the "fun" in fundamentalism since the Crusades

[R]ight-wing hate-monger Cliff Kincaid’s group America’s Survival launched a repulsive fear campaign against repeal, warning that “disease-tainted gay blood threatens our troops.” The group’s abhorrent video — and the 60 page report that accompanies it — present ludicrous stereotypes of gay men and women, going so far as to claim that “open and active homosexuals into the U.S. military could very well result in the spreading of deadly HIV-tainted blood throughout the ranks”…. Of course, all would-be soldiers undergo mandatory HIV screening and are not allowed to serve if they are found to be positive. Kincaid mentions this, but as Joe.My.God noted, the press release “cites the singular example of an HIV-positive soldier infecting a 17 year-old male he met in a chat room. Because if it happened ONCE out of all those millions of soldiers…”

Desperate times call for desperate measures…by desperate people desperately clinging to their blind hatred as if their lives depended on it. Of course, in the addled minds of the haters, their lives probably DO depending on perpetuating Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell…because Lord only knows what would happen once Teh Gayz are recognized as a protected class and The Homosexual Agenda is enshrined as the law of the land. (OHMIGOD…mandatory anal sex in the 4th grade!!! TO THE BARRICADES!!!)

Rather than accepting that the tenor of the debate and the legal momentum isn’t going their way, the haters are becoming increasingly and more savagely unhinged. Given the hateful, disingenuous tone that some on the far Right are setting in the debate over DADT, a reasonable person would have to ask just what it is these cretins are so terrified of. They clearly have recognized that history and public opinion are not on their side, so the next logical step is of course to lie, prevaricate, and twist history into something unrecognizable….whatever it takes to scare Americans into perpetuating hatred and oppression, right?

A sensible person would recognize that a soldier should be judged on their competence and professionalism. Why the haters believe that only homosexuals will endanger unit cohesion and readiness defies explanation. What about heterosexual male service members who harass and rape women? Or is it merely that the haters are OK with the “boys will be boys” excuse that’s been used to enable the marginalization of women in the military for so long? Men have needs, and they need to blow off steam…but they’d damn well better not be fellating heterosexual soldiers while they’re asleep….

And here’s another thing I don’t understand: so many of the haters profess to believe in the healing power of Jesus Christ. Yet these same good, God-fearing “Christians” hate any and all things homosexual as if it threatens them on a personal level. Did these cretins sleep through the sermon on Christian charity and tolerance? Or is it simply that their flavor of God is a bitter, vindictive, mean-spirited Deity more inclined to kick ass and take names than to promote loving thy neighbor as thyself?

The most likely reality is that the haters are terrified of anything that smacks of homosexuality because they’re terrified and uncertain of their own sexuality. Why else would they so completely and narrowly focus on one and only one part of an individual’s basic humanity? How else could they possibly justify spreading such vicious, mean-spirited lies and propaganda about a class of people that mostly just wants to be able to live and love as they see fit? The idea that someone could so thoroughly twist, misinterpret, and and lie about history to support their narrow, hate-filled agenda should be offensive to any reasonable person.

Whether or not a person supports homosexuality isn’t the point. You don’t have to support one’s sexuality (or politics, religion, or choice of football teams) in order to understand that a person’s humanity dictates that they be treated equally. God (if She even exists) doesn’t hate homosexuals…mean, spiteful, ignorant people hate homosexuals (and Democrats, and Liberals, etc.). It’s long past time that the US military stopped accepting hatred and oppression as official policy. If a soldier is competent and professional enough to protect this country, they can bugger goats in their off hours for all I care. Their sexuality…JUST. DOESN’T. MATTER.

It’s time to do the right thing and end Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell…if for no other reason than to watch the heads of uber-Jesus-y haters explode nationwide.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
