Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t give a single-digit IQ loser like Brad Goehring the time of day. Under normal circumstances, he wouldn’t be worth the effort. Given what’s happening in this country today, though, these are hardly normal circumstances. In a day and age when people show up at political rallies with weapons and in some cases talk openly about going to war with our (democratically elected, BTW) government, Goehring’s “joke” is nowhere close to being funny. Joking about hunting Liberals, or any other class of people, is offensive and just plain wrong…yet so many Conservative think it funny and not at all worrisome or incendiary. Hmm…could it be that Conservatives just aren’t funny? Inquiring minds (don’t really) want to know….
Living in my little gas tank, I’m certainly in no place to be lighting matches. Lord knows I’ve spewed my share of flammable rhetoric over the years, but I’ve (hopefully) never advocated (even in jest) taking up arms against those who disagree with me. There comes a point when anyone running for public office needs to recognize and understand that words have meaning and that “jokes”, however well-intentioned, sometimes aren’t nearly as uproariously humorous as intended. Goehring’s message on his Facebook page may have been intended for “friends”, but nothing stays private for very long on the Internet, right?
If Goehring had a shred of simple human decency, he’d be falling all over himself in abject horror at what his words have wrought. You’ll have to pardon me if I’m not holding my breath on that account….
RIght…when Conservatives do it, it’s all in good fun….
