Enough action! We DEMAND cheap, meaningless public displays of angst!!

It’s actions — not self-indulgent displays of garment rending — that people want to see. And while I hate wading in to the high-toned stupidity of “messaging,” it’s nevertheless true that one of the ways that Obama could “connect” with people would be to take to his bully pulpit and lay out a detailed and forceful prosecutorial case of the various delinquents and fools who spurred this disaster into existence. But, of course, that might take several minutes, and unfortunately, the media would prefer to broadcast a seven-second conniption instead. At any rate, we’ve talked about how the desire for a display of pathos is a nutlog media obsession which is not by and large shared by the public.

We Americans value action, don’t we? Even if we don’t know what we’re doing, the expectation that we being doing SOMETHING is primary and all-consuming. Of course, if we can’t be doing something, then we should at least LOOK as if we’re doing something…because nothing good ever comes out of sober reflection, right? If something’s wrong, change it. If something’s broken, fix it. Those who can, do; those who can’t, think.

The latest media obsession with President Obama’s “lack” of obvious public angst can only mean one thing if you’re a talking head: PRESIDENT OBAMA ISN’T DOING ANYTHING!!! OUR GOVERNMENT IS FAILING US!!! PRESIDENT OBAMA IS AN EMOTIONLESS DRONE FIDDLING WHILE ROME BURNS!!! Of course, if was the President was publicly venting his spleen in apoplectic outbursts, he’d be getting pummeled for being overly emotional, out of controll, and incapable of providing inspirational leadership. Really, how absurd are the expectations when no matter what the President does or doesn’t do, he’s screwed either way? The mainstream media has combined to create an atmosphere that can only charitably be described as poisonous. The President literally can’t win. Rather than being allowed to lead in the way that’s most authentic for him, the media jackals insist that they know best. Enthralled with their own self-professed brilliance and instant analysis, they’ve managed to create an impossible situation for the President. They happily and easily accepted the blithe, childish ineptitude of George W. Bush, but for Barack Obama they’ve raised the bar, expecting perfection from Day One. It’s a standard no human could hope to meet…and so therefore the President is an abject failure.

So, how’s that “hopey-derangey” thing workin’ out fer ya??

I, like most Americans, have my opinions and prejudices when it comes to President Obama’s job performance. Like many of us, I’d like a bit more of this, a bit less of that, less oil polluting the Gulf of Mexico…and a job. The point is that we all know what opinions are like, right? Thankfully, true leadership means ignoring the chattering classes, evaluating the available information, and then doing what makes the most sense. Generally speaking, a President has for more information at his disposal than your average civilian or talking head…not that a lack of actionable information has ever stopped ANYONE from voicing their opinion.

We face some serious problems, problems that don’t have easy, pat solutions. If they did, those solutions would have long since been formulated and implemented. It’s not as if President Obama was handed a clean slate when he walked into the Oval Office. No, he was handed the equivalent of a flaming sack of elephant $#!&…and most of what’s he’s been doing thus far has revolved around cleaning up the mess The Worst President EVER © left behind. Even though Republicans have conveniently forgotten the mess that was eight years in the making, and they insist that President Obama owns this mess, cleaning up behind an elephant does not connote ownership of said elephant.

How about we all just take a deep breath and get real? The effects of eight years of Republican greed, ineptitude, and incompetence didn’t just magically disappear when Barack Obama took the oath of office. Someone had to clean up the mess, and that’s precisely what President Obama has been heavily engaged in. While all of us might like to see this or that done differently, do we REALLY think that we- or anyone else- would be doing any better? John McCain? PUH-LEEZE. The man’s an embarrassment- to himself, his family, and his country. After electing The Worst President EVER © TWICE, I think most of the American electorate (and the media) are due for a nice hot cup of STFU.

No, the cleanup continues…and all of us, pundits and Sheeple, need to just chill and STFU so the adults can continue the cleanup work. It ain’t pretty, but it needs to be done. How about we let them do it without feeling as if they’re being nibbled to death by ducks?
