On today's episode of "Talkin' Sedition With the Founding Fathers"....

The truly sad thing about this is that people like Rich Barber are still attracting media attention. Cretins like Barber are worthy of column inches only insofar as their ignorant, unadulterated loopiness provides them with the self-anointed “right” to act like victims. Though Barber prattles on about things being “shoved down his throat” (and here I thought teabaggers hated and feared the Homosexual Agenda), this is exactly what he wants to do to this country. Remember, it’s not forcing your agenda on others when it’s YOUR agenda (just like it’s not “judicial activism” when Conservative judges do it).

Though I can (sort of) understand why Barber feels as he does, he’s typical of those who elevates the rights of the individual above all else. Taking care of #1 at the expense of everyone and everything else really ought to be a plank in the GOP platform, because Lord knows that’s when Barber and his ilk are all about. The idea of community, the idea of the Social Contract are foreign to people who think like Barber. It’s all about “me, me, ME!!” Government exists because the Founding Fathers recognized the need for a mechanism that would address collective needs. If business and property owners were allowed to do whatever they see fit, as Barber seems to propose, we’d still be still be living with indentured servitude as the law of the land. Even worse, the right to vote would probably be limited to those who own property.

And as for impeaching the President…for what?? Right-wing crackpots run off at the mouth about impeaching President Obama, but none of them ever seem to mention what high crimes and/or misdemeanors he’s guilty of. When last I checked, you can’t impeach a sitting President simply because you disagree with his views, his policies, or his approach. Besides, where were Barber and his fellow travelers when The Worst President EVER © lied and propagandized his way into a war with Iraq? Where’s the outrage over the nearly 5,000 American lives that have been wasted there? Being responsible for the deaths of thousands of our sons and daughters is not a crime…but being a Democrat is??

It seems clear that Rick Barber, and those who think like him, are little more than self-absorbed, anti-democratic zealots whose use for the Constitution and the rule of law extends only so far as they can see it benefiting them. They know nothing of, and have even less respect for, our system of government…unless things happen to break their way. Ignorance and unfocused rage is a damn poor way to demonstrate political vision and leadership…but it’s about all that Barber and those who think like him have to offer.

If politicians were movies, Rick Barber would be Idiocracy. Let’s hope there are enough intelligent people in Alabama who can see through him and deny him a seat in Congress. There are enough self-absorbed, intolerant, brain-dead zealots in Washington as it is.
