When one of your own calls you out for being ideologically vacant....

TP: They are saying, if you accuse them of being the party of no or not having ideas, they will say “oh no!”

Erickson: That’s such crap. Say you’re the “Party of No.” Of course you are. Everyone knows you are. Stop lying.

I will generally agree with RedState’s Erick Erickson about as often as Arnold Schwartzenegger delivers twins. In fact, in most cases, Erickson’s talking out of his sphincter. Still, Republicans for whatever reason listen to Erickson…so when he calls out the GOP for denying that they’re doing what they claim not to be doing, it might be time to pull up a chair and listen.

Republicans will angrily “refudiate” charges that they’re not The Party of NO!! ©. They’ll tell you that all they’re doing is standing up and giving everyday Americans corporations and wealthy GOP benefactors a voice in a government gone wild. They’ll vehemently deny being a party of obstructionists with no real ideas to call their own…except to oppose any and every policy initiative President Obama has proposed. They managed to set a record for filibusters, and they’ve relied on secret holds and other parliamentary tricks/delaying tactics to essentially grind the federal government, if not to a halt, then something very close to it.

It’s not that I’m expecting Republicans to actually lay out in gory detail their plans and ideas (though that would be greatly appreciated). Still, when Rep. Peter King (R-NY) openly admits during a radio interview that Republicans shouldn’t “lay out a complete agenda”, because it could become “a campaign issue”, it’s hard not to feel like you’ve just had a “WTF??” moment. No, of course Republicans shouldn’t tell the American Sheeple what their plans and ideas are, because then they’ll find themselves being asked some very uncomfortable questions. When you build a house of cards, you’re going to be praying fervently that the wind doesn’t start blowing and knocking the cards over.

Apparently, the American Sheeple is supposed to take it on faith that the GOP has their best interests at heart. Pay no attention to The Party of NO!! © behind the curtain, they’ll tell you; we’re just trying to hold back this Kenyan-born Islamist President’s brand of incipient Islamist tyranny and (gasp) SOCIALISM!!!

I’m not going to tell you that Democrats do a bang-up job of laying out their plan in vivid, living color and detail. Democrats enjoy wiggle room and plausible deniability every bit as much as your average Republican. Still, at least Democrats don’t cower behind parliamentary maneuvers, filibusters, and other obstructionist methods to achieve their agenda. At least Democrats operate with a degree of intellectual and moral honesty that Republicans seem preternaturally unable to grasp. At least Democrats don’t scurry when the lights are turned on.

The truly sad thing is that the GOP stands a good chance of making significant gains in November’s midterm elections. They’ll blame Democrats in general and President Obama in particular for problems they themselves helped create during the eight-year Reign of Error ©. They’ll act as if they care about the deficit, when they really, truly detest the middle class and the unemployed. Republicans created this deficit, but they’ll somehow managed to convince the American Sheeple that President Obama is responsible and demand that he be held accountable. Once again, The Big Lie will reign triumphant…and Americans will vote against their interests. This is what happens when you can’t be bothered to pay attention.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
