Because wealthy White Conservative men really should control female reproductive functions

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Ken Buck

Tea Party-backed contender Ken Buck, who’s facing-off against Jane Norton in Colorado’s GOP Senate primary says he firmly opposes abortion rights and doesn’t “believe in the exceptions of rape or incest.”…. “I am pro-life, and I’ll answer the next question. I don’t believe in the exceptions of rape or incest. I believe that the only exception, I guess, is life of the mother. And that is only if it’s truly life of the mother. To me, you can’t say you’re pro-life and say — if there is, and it’s a very rare situation where one life would have to cease for the other life to exist. But in that very rare situation, we may have to take the life of the child to save the life of the mother. In that rare situation, I am in favor of that exception. But other than that I have no exceptions in my position.”

I suppose Coloradans should feel better knowing that a courageous Conservative like Ken Buck is willing to stand up an take charge of decisions relating to female reproductive issues. Lord knows they wouldn’t want the anarchy that would result if you allowed women to make these decisions for themselves, eh?

Here’s what I find so interesting about Buck’s implacable opposition to the idea of women controlling their own bodies. Being the Tea Party candidate of choice for Colorado’s GOP Senate primary, his attitude toward abortion seems to run directly counter to the Tea Party’s raison d’etre. After all, isn’t the Tea Party all about smaller government and getting government out of the lives of Americans? Or am I missing something (like a raftload of hypocrisy) here?

The reality is that Republicans like Buck are all about kowtowing to the Tea Party…as long as they’re not actually expected to do anything reflective of the Tea Party’s “values”. Buck is all about getting government off the backs of Americans…as long as good Conservative values are being respected. If something runs counter to Conservative dogma, then…voila!!…Buck has no problem with government regulating, outlawing, or otherwise proscribing behavior. Just like it’s only “judicial activism” when we’re talking about “Liberal” judges and “wise jurisprudence” when the discussion centers on “Conservative” judges.

Hypocrisy…it’s truly the one undeniably reliable Republican value. Ken Buck just wears it better than most.
