I should probably take a couple Valium and crawl back into bed with a bottle of Stolichnaya and a loaded Ruger. Jeebus, y’all; what else could a reasonable person be expected to do when one is surrounded by and bombarded with propaganda, fear-mongering, disinformation, and sheer, unadulterated lunacy? In a time when this country finds itself (at least acting as if it is) coping with some very real challenges and problems, the public discourse sounds as if it was cribbed from the script of Idiocracy. How else do you explain lunacy like this?:
A lying adulterer like Newt Gingrich can hold forth on moral issues with a straight face while stating that “It doesn’t matter what I do”. In a party built on hypocrisy, Newt Gingrich makes his colleagues look like rank amateurs. Truly, Gingrich is a VERY special kind of bigoted, self-righteous, hypocritical asshole.
Tea Party supporters harbor more racial resentment than more “mainstream” Conservatives. Judging by the signs at Tea Party rallies, this comes as not great surprise, eh?
The media gleefully participates in disseminating the hatred and not-so-thinly-veiled racism being spread by the Rabid Right. Because informed, rational debate is kinda boring, really.
Ignorant, partisan zealots like Liz Cheney can excoriate President Obama for ignoring the will of the Sheeple when they care about the will of the Sheeple only insofar as it can be manipulated to bolster their lust for power.
Republicans can opine that tax cuts for the wealthy are good for the economy, even though they can’t explain how they plan on paying for them.
Republicans advocate for amending the Constitution whenever they think they have an issue they can manipulate to their advantage. Left unsaid is the reality that changing the Constitution is a phenomenally difficult thing to do. It’s really NOT about amending the Constitution. It’s really about ginning up false outrage and righteous anger. You have to know that you’re on the wrong track when Dick Cheney is calling your efforts “offensive”.
Republicans stand by mutely while their supporters engage in all manner of name-calling, character assassination, and hate-fueled demonization of Democrats.
Jeebus, but we’re a stupid, malleable collection of terrified sheep, aren’t we?? You’d think that in a time like this, when we really do have serious problems in need of serious leadership and serious solutions, that Republicans and the Rabid Right would be acting rationally and trying to act like leaders. Yeah, right; that would make too much sense and require too damn much work. Far better to demagogue issues, engage in name-calling and character assassination, and propagandize the American Sheeple into a frenzy.
Welcome to the 2010 remake of Idiocracy….
