OK...so we know what you're against. When are you going to tell us what you're for??

I don’t think it’s a stretch to posit that most Americans understand that there are stark differences between the Democratic and Republican parties. I could list some of the differences, but that’s not really my point here. While this ad does a reasonably good job of pointing out some of the major (and quite disturbing) goals of the GOP, it’s really little more than just another attack ad. Quick, dramatics cuts…ominous music…a message laden with the urgent message that the GOP wants to destroy America…been there, done that. These are all tried, true, and, sadly, all too effective political advertising tricks. Unfortunately, they do nothing except advocate for the primacy of Democratic talking points. In that sense, Democrats, in the creation of this ad, at least, have sunk to the same depths frequently plumbed by Republicans.

What I want to see is an ad telling me what the Democratic agenda is, how they plan on accomplishing their aims, and how they’re going to ensure that Republicans remain a minority party. Of course, slinging mud, impugning reputations, and engaging in propaganda-laden name-calling IS a lot less work and much easier to do in a 30-second spot. I get that. Why, though, are Democrats insisting on sinking to the level that Republicans most comfortably operate on? Why can’t the Democratic Party be the party of ideas and action? Yes, Republicans ARE the “the Party of NO!!”, and that’s a worthwhile message to hammer home to voters…but why is that the only hammer in the Democratic toolbox?

What I fail to understand, and what drives me absolutely over the edge, is why Democrats insist on fighting on Republican turf? Why let the mean-spirited, reactionary, soul-less Right dictates the rules, the scoring, and the venue of the game? Why are Democrats so damn timid when it comes to taking on the Right? Democrats look like spineless weenies when it comes down to campaign combat…because we are. Democrats have better, more honest, and more realistic ideas. Democrats give a damn about the middle class. Democrats advocate fair and equitable tax policies, and are far more competent when it comes to managing the economy. Of course, you might not realize any of this…BECAUSE DEMOCRATS DON’T HAVE A CLUE HOW TO SELL THEMSELVES AND THEIR POLICIES. There’s absolutely no reason to vote Republican, but you could be forgiven for thinking otherwise…because Democrats insist on bring a water pistol to a knife fight.

WE DESERVE BETTER…not that Democrats have the balls to kick ass and takes names in order that this might actually happen. Damn, but we’re a collection of spineless weenies….
