Credit where credit is due

All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.

  • Friedrich Nietzsche

In the aftermath of President’s Obama’s speech on the end of combat operations, it was interesting to note the number of former Bushies who crawled out from under various and assorted rocks. By demanding that The Worst President EVER © be given credit for all of the “good things” his Iraq war policy accomplished, they succeeded in revealing that revisionist history is a dish best served…not at all.

Those now rushing to garner credit for Captain Codpiece ©, and by association themselves, completely ignore how we became embroiled in the war in Iraq to begin with. They ignores the lies, the propaganda, the talking points, and the fudged intelligence used to grease the skids for a war that had NOTHING to do with 9.11. Frankly, the only credit those responsible for the death of almost 4,500 (and counting) Americans (and the maiming of 31,000+ others) and over 100,000 Iraqis should receive involves a cigarette and a blindfold. That exactly NO ONE is going to be held criminally culpable for the lies, the manipulation, and the thousands of lost and ruined lives is just about the most appalling thing imaginable.

Credit where credit is due? Of course; though I doubt these self-satisfied maroons would be willing to accept “credit” for much of the recession this country is currently mired in. Given the trillions in resources that we’ve expended in Iraq, an argument could be made that more attention was paid to administering an illegal and immoral war than to managing our economy.

Credit where credit is due? Given the death and destruction they have visited upon this country and Iraq, given the lives wasted and ruined, none of these people should be allowed to leave home without being hounded and reminded of their evil and perfidy. If the Obama Administration refuses to hold the Bushies accountable, the American Sheeple should. While I understand why President Obama feels the need to look forward, justice demands that those responsible for the slaughter be called to account. Over 100,000 deaths resulting from lies, propaganda, and Nixonian manipulation of intelligence…and no one will be held responsible?

Meanwhile, Republicans are acting as if those responsible for the lying this country into the war in Iraq should be feted as heroes. I’m all for giving credit where credit is due, but from where I sit, that means there are a lot of people who should be waiting for a cigarette and a blindfold. These folks are war criminals, plain and simple…the thought that they are getting off without ANY punishment sickens me. Even worse is the message it sends: the lives of those killed by their lies and propaganda are of little value.

WE DESERVE BETTER…and so do those no longer among us.
