Idiocracy writ large...it's just the way the world works

Life is so easy when you’re unknown. No one asks uncomfortable questions when you’re anonymous, because no one cares. Then you do something unimaginable…and suddenly everyone wants to know everything about you. In the case of Christine O’Donnell, the more I learn, the more, um, unpleasant that knowledge becomes. Mean-spirited, dishonest, corrupt, venal, judgmental…these adjectives only begin to cover the slime trail that O’Donnell seems to be leaving in her wake. As Roy Sekoff said, O’Donnell makes Sarah Palin look deep. The tactics she employed to turn people against Mike Castle went far beyond aggressive, hard-nosed politics. No, O’Donnell was happy to wallow in the mud, questioning Castle’s sexuality and accusing him of carrying of a sexual relationship with a male aide. That she had no evidence to back up her accusation mattered not a whit to her. It was all about winning, and O’Donnell was willing to do whatever it takes. Very Christ-like behavior, no??

I can handle differences in opinion and philosophy. I can handle good people who just happen to think differently. After all, if everyone thought like me, this would be one seriously FUBARed world, knowhutimean? No, what I detest, what I absolutely despise in a human is dishonesty and lack of charity. That you could honestly think yourself superior to another human being because of your beliefs is about the most repugnant thing imaginable. That sh could sink teo the depths O’Donnell is willing to puts the lie to her holier-than-thou religiosity. Christine O’Donnell is more than anything else a miserable, repulsive excuse for a human being. Karma being what it is, I have to believe that what she’s sown will ultimately be revisited upon her. Of course, that’s just the idealist in me. The world being what it is, she’ll probably morph into the Second Coming of Caribou Barbie…because that’s just the way the world works, isn’t it??

Perhaps most disturbing part of what O’Donnell represents is what I fear it says about the future of our country and our political system. The rise of politicians like O’Donnell and Sarah Palin represent the triumph of reflexive religiosity over rational thought, intolerance over acceptance of diversity, and zealotry over reason. The fact that Americans would vote for someone like Christine O’Donnell is something that should scare the Hell out of any reasonable, thoughtful voter. Apparently, we really ARE that stupid and undemanding of our politicians.

Even worse, think of how we’ll be subjected to long, drawn-out dissections of O’Donnell’s philosophy on masturbation over the next 6+ weeks….
