The GOP: making racism fashionable again

Racism isn’t born, folks, it’s taught. I have a two-year-old son. You know what he hates? Naps! End of list.

If you think that the GOP isn’t using racism in their pursuit of power, if you think that the GOP really IS the “Big Tent Party”…well, you might want to wake up and smell the cat litter. That smell is the reality that Republicans have built their house on the soft sand of racism since the days of Barry Goldwater. The GOP’s “Southern Strategy” may have been a Nixonian product of the ’60s, but Republicans are smart enough to stick with a strategy that works. Though they may have (not so cleverly) camouflaged their strategy and tactics, Republicans know that using race to create fear and loathing works. GOP leaders will dispute this until their dying breath, but they’ve worked hard to create a party of, by, and for White people. It’s worked for almost 50 years…so why stop now? With a (OOO!!! SCARY!!!) Black man in the White House, Republican fear-mongerers and race-baiters now have a tangible bogeyman as a target.

No, we’re not better than this. Not until the American Sheeple begin thinking and stop reacting will we be better. Please note that I’m not holding my breath on this account.

The more things change….
