When you think of spiritual warfare as actual warfare...this is what you get

In Christianity neither morality nor religion come into contact with reality at any point.

  • Friedrich Nietzsche

If you think that the Tea Party is about “taking our country back”…well, you’re right. It’s about intolerant, White, Christians zealots looking to institute what can only accurately be called a Dominionist Theocracy, where democracy as we know it will be sacrificed to the religious prejudices of those in power.

While I understand and sympathize with some of the anger that so many seem to be espousing these days, there is a very real historical truth that these self-styled “patriots” seem to be conveniently forgetting. This country was founded by those fleeing religious oppression. The concept of the separation of Church and State is as American as apple pie…and yet there are those who would like nothing better than to rule this country with the Christian version of Sharia. Scripture would become the law of the land, and biblical principles would be used rule all aspects of life. Those who think, live, love, and believe differently would be relegated to second-class citizen status, subjected to all manner of repression and discrimination.

They’ll tell you that this is “a Christian nation”, as if those of us who happen not to be Christian are of little consequence and no value. They’ll tell you that everything that’s “wrong” with this country can be traced back to when this country turned it’s back on God. I have nothing against Christianity as a religion; it’s Christians that have me fearing for our future, and if you listen to this piece you’ll understand why. I have nothing against anyone holding whatever religious beliefs give their life meaning and purpose…but I’ll be damned if I’m going to stand by quietly while zealots use their religion to justify curtailing my (and our) Constitutionally-guaranteed rights.

They’ll tell you that they revere the Constitution…not that more than a handful of them have actually read it, of course. We’re facing the very real possibility of a future in which tyranny will come to power wrapped in a flag and clutching a Bible. Are you willing to take that risk?
