I understand that events in Egypt are often happening so quickly that they’re outstripping our ability to comprehend them. Nonetheless, what sort of a miserable excuse for a human being sees death, suffering, and turmoil as an excuse to push his spring line of haute couture? Can you say “EPIC PR failure“…or are you just so phenomenally self-absorbed that nothing registers?
I’m not about to say that Kenneth Cole doesn’t have the right to express himself…but would it be too much to expect him to recognize that this isn’t all about Kenneth Cole? Dude, it’s not about you. It just isn’t. Egyptians are sacrificing, and in some cases dying, because they want to be able to have a voice in how they’re governed. They’re tired of corruption and the brutal, despotic leadership Egypt has endured for the past 30 years. They’re not looking for a cute little dress or some shoes to go with that fabulous handbag they just picked up at Lord & Taylor. They’re trying to avoid getting hit by Molotov cocktails, concrete missiles, and whips, knowhutimean??
PS- Cole deleted the tweet and issued an apology on Facebook. While this is certainly a step in the right direction, it doesn’t erase the cluelessness and insensitivity. Yo, Kenneth; it’s not about you, ‘kay?? Maybe if you threw some of your considerable cash at, say, Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch, that might help to demonstrate that you (finally) really do get it. Just a thought….
