Time to draw a line in the sand, before Trump announces he owns the sand

All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and the success is sure.

  • Mark Twain

Blind and naked ignorance delivers brawling judgments, unashamed, on all things all day long.

  • Alfred, Lord Tennyson

In response to the scores of readers who’ve (not) asked me why I’m not writing about Donald Trump, I have a very simple answer. You won’t find anything on this blog about Donald Trump. Yes, that’s right; I’m declaring that going forward WWJD will be a Trump-free zone. The ignorant, self-promoting bigot-in-chief has received far more attention than he deserves…considering that he has nothing of any value to add to the public discussion. I find myself thoroughly disgusted that someone so vapid and thoroughly self-absorbed has found yet another way to promote his own self-professed brilliance. What possible reason could I have for wanting to add to the Sturm und Drang of silliness and ignorance? No one peddling racism and ignorance deserves to be acknowledged in the manner Trump has. I can only control what I do, of course…and so I’m opting out.

If you really want to understand just how silly and disgusting the Trump-as-Presidential-candidate meme has become, I’d recommend Matt Bors’ excellent take on it. Anything I might write would merely be a hollow imitation of what Bors and others have already so eloquently said, and I frankly have other things I want to focus on.

Say, didja hear that the government is threating the “fundamental right of good American food-sellers to market corn syrup-soaked processed corn nuggets to children, using fun cartoon characters”…but that using a scantily-clad Olivia Munn to sell fast-food hamburgers is still acceptable? Now isn’t that the sort of faux outrage that feels good?
