Too big to fail...and evidently too big to pay taxes

Avarice, the spur of industry.

  • David Hume

Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed.

  • Mahatma Gandhi

It’s not exactly breaking new ground to say that our deficit problem would be a lot closer to resolution if corporations paid the taxes they owe instead of relying on accountants and tax lawyers to find loopholes in the tax code that can be exploited to their advantage. I’m not going to paint all corporations with the same brush, but the undeniable reality is that scofflaws like General Electric, Massey Energy, and Chevron foul the waters for those corporations who do step up and meet their responsibility. Just how bad is the problem? Well, I found a graphic that illustrates this problem beautifully, but it’s far too large to squeeze into the 540px width limit I generally have to stick to. You can go here to view the graphic. Frankly, if it doesn’t leave you outraged, I’d have to wonder if you’re even paying attention.
