Hatred and religious bigotry- yer doon it rong (Chapter 2)

I’ve always wondered what might happen when matter and anti-matter collide. I was a history major, so I’m probably not smart enough to understand the physics of the conflagration…but I’m thinking it’s probably going to look a lot like what at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day. When members of the Ku Klux Klan encountered members of the Westboro Baptist Church, what resulted wasn’t exactly a meeting of the minds.

If you were expecting Paul Krugman and Robert Reich…well, you’re going to be sorely disappointed….

“It’s the soldier that fought and died and gave them that right to free speech,” said Dennis LaBonte, the self-described “Imperial Wizard” of the KKK group that he said he formed several years ago.

“That’s fine,” said Abigail Phelps, the daughter of Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps. “They have no moral authority on anything.

“People like them say it’s white power … white supremacy,” Phelps said. “The Bible doesn’t say anywhere that it’s an abomination to be born of a certain gender or race.”

LaBonte insisted he is not a racist nor a “hate-monger,” but said he believes the white race is “slowly and most assuredly being denigrated.”

I’m not sure there’s a “right” way to hate…but I’ve got to believe that both sides in this debate R DOON IT RONG. Of course, this being America (freedom of speech and expression, yadayadayada….), everyone has the right to spread their personal brand of ignorance and lunacy to the four winds. Yes, THIS is what America is really all about, y’all.

Ain’t freedom grand??
