Random thoughts on what should be a beautiful summer Friday

It’s another Friday here in (something resembling) Paradise. While my partner in crime is at a wedding in Lawrence, KS (and who in their right mind goes to Kansas in the middle of freakin’ July, ferchrissakes??) and it’s supposed to be 97 degrees there, it’s supposed to be all of 78 here in Portland. Ah, but I digress…my point was that I have much on my mind these days, so why not just drop a load of it here? After all, it’s Friday…so who’s really going to be paying attention, anyway??

  • I’ve been invited to a wedding in northern Washington state in a couple of weeks. There will be golf involved, and though I love the game, I really haven’t played since I moved back here to Portland. So, in an effort to avoid embarrassing myself, I went to a driving range yesterday to see if I still remembered how to hold, much less swing, a golf club. It seems that I still have my swing, though Lord only knows what will happen when I actually play 18 holes. I can still putt, chip, and make solid contact. What I don’t know is if I’ll be able to get the ball on the green without making it look like an outtake from Caddyshack. I can only hope that those in my group will be so wrapped up in their own athletic futility that they won’t notice mine.

  • I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a book and trying to self-publish it. One of the ideas I’ve been knocking around is doing something with posts from WWJD and, prior to that, The People’s Republic of Seabrook. After going on 10 years, I figure there have got to be a few things out there I can have some fun with. What I’m curious about is what my readers might think and what some of their favorites posts are. Whaddya think? Any favorites that any of y’all think might be fun to expand?

  • It’s been almost four years since I left Houston, and WWJD STILL comes in at #6 if you Google “I HATE HOUSTON.”. Mama would be SO proud….

  • I may have mentioned a time or six that Michele Bachmann represents the Congressional district that I went to high school in…and yes, I am all sorts of ashamed to admit that. I had NO idea I was surrounded by people so undemanding and brain-dead that they would think Bachmann to be a worthy representative of their interests. Then again, could it be that Bachmann is so mind-numbingly stoopid that she’s actually smart? And all this time you’d been thinking that Idiocracy was just a movie. Turns out it was actually a documentary…and a good part of it was evidently filmed in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, don’tchaknow??
