Imagine my surprise when my long-lost friend Marta checked in yesterday via email from who-knows-where in the West Midlands. Last I heard, she’d been somewhere in Nigeria trying to start her own business (something “Nigerian royalty”; I never did really understand the details….). It would appear that dear Marta has run into a bit of a pickle, as being stuck in the UK with no money has got to suck.
‘Course, I do find it rather interesting that Marta, who’s been incommunicado for such a long time now, manages to surface when she’s in need of some money. You’d think that she could at least have the decency to give me a call to say hello and explain her predicament. After all, if you’re going to ask someone for $1500, wouldn’t a phone call be the polite thing to do?
It’s strange, though; I seem to recall Marta having a much better grasp of English grammar, spelling, and sentence construction. Oh, well, perhaps that knock on the head has left her a bit addled.
Damn, where DID I leave that credit card of mine??
