OK, so I realize that the NBA lockout means that a lot of athletes have a lot of time on their hands. And I understand that a number of NFL teams (like the Seattle Seahawks) are grasping at straws. Still, I have to wonder if LeBron James is so distressed at being out of the spotlight that he’s willing to play footsie via Twitter with Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.
What is it with NBA players that makes them think they could hold up to the automobile-accident-on-every-play wear and tear of the NFL. Yes, James is large, solid, and freakishlt athletic, and he may well be an exception to the rule. Still, I have a difficult time believing that someone who hasn’t played football since high school could hold up for any length of time. NFL football is not the NBA with pads. What NBA players think of as contact is barely a warmup for an NFL player. Of course, it might be kinda fun to watch LeBron James get the snot knocked out of him a few times….
Come to think of it, I have some time on my hand these days. I wonder if the Seahawks (or any other NFL team) need a 51-year-old kicker (or third-string QB) with two bad knees and a bad ankle??
I should probably be careful about ridiculing Carroll and his Seahawks. They may be the very definition of enforced, long-term mediocrity, but it’s not like my Vikings are striking fear in the hearts of NFL players. They’re lucky to be 1-4, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they went 1-15. He who lives in a glass house….
Yo, Pete…call me…. ;-)
