When Liberals do it, it's fomenting revolution. When Conservatives do it, it's getting back to basics

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

John Jay

When you consider that John Jay is affiliated with Pamela Geller, it actually makes sense that he would be such a vile, foaming-at-the-mouth racist and hater of all things even vaguely Muslim. What I fail to understand is how someone could spew such hatred and bile and not be roundly condemned by colleagues and cohorts on the Far Right. After all, no reasonable person would want to be associated with such rampant, offensive hate speech…right?

Think about it for a second. If a Liberal had written a blog post that seems to channel Anders Behring Breivik, every Right-wing talking head from Key West to Kennewick would be beyond apoplectic. Someone on the Right side of the political spectrum does it, and what we get is…crickets.

Read it for yourself:

Jay is arguing for violent action against those with whom he disagrees. That’s right; he’s advocating that those who don’t share his narrow, hateful ideology be “drawn and quartered”, “given proper Muslim burials at sea”, “burned at the stake”, and…well, you get the point. The fact that Jay couldn’t write or punctuate his way out of a wet paper sack is bad enough, but advocating violence? Free speech can, and often is, offensive speech, but Jay takes his hatred to heights few decent people would dare visit. Then again, I doubt any reasonable person would think to describe Jay as “decent.” Except that the deafening roar of silence emanating from the Right can, and should, be taken as condoning Jay’s hate speech.

Just imagine the hue and cry, the weeping and gnashing of teeth, if a Liberal had written the same hateful screed. The outrage would be heard from Conservative media outlet to Conservative media outlet…and they’d get no argument from me. This sort of hate speech has no place in a society of decent people. Then again, when your soul is as black and cold as Jay’s, “decent” isn’t an adjective that leaps to mind.

Hate speech, especially something as vile as Jay’s screed, should be condemned regardless of what side of the political spectrum you happen to occupy. That Right-wing commentators have chosen to whistle past (and thus condone) Jay’s call for violence only serves to demonstrate how morally bankrupt so many of them truly are.

Remember, when a Liberal does it, it’s the worst sort of vile hate speech imaginable. When a Conservative does it, they’re merely being passionate about an issue they care deeply about.
