As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly....

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

Develop and attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.

Like most of us, I plan on taking some time today to reflect on what I have to be thankful for…and there’s much to ponder. This has been an amazing year filled with joy, sorrow, and possibilities only now beginning to make themselves known. In other words, I suspect my year has been much like yours, though I’d imagine (and hope) the details are somewhat different.

After years of hemming and hawing and wallowing in a profound lack of self-confidence, I’ve finally decided to take the leap pursue a career as a writer. While I’m still not certain that anyone would actually want to pay me to string complete sentences together, I need to try. I suppose it finally dawned on me that I didn’t want to wake up when I’m 85, realize that I’m approaching that bottom of the back end of the bell curve, and have to ask myself, “What if…?” or “Why didn’t you…?” And so the question became, “Why not?” and I began to puzzle through how to become bigger than Jesus Steven King. It’s an ongoing process, and I believe the best is yet to come. What that will look like is anyone’s guess, but I know I can write; now I just have to find my niche.

Today, surrounded by Erin’s family, I’ll be enjoying something I haven’t had in quite some time- family. Between the Bloody Marys, the football, the turkey, and the pumpkin pie, our relatively small house will be overwhelmed with children and adults. My love of peace, quiet, and order will surely be put to the test…and I think I’ll love it. It’s a nice change and reflective of the reality that I’m in a very good place.

If you’ll excuse me, I need more coffee…and I probably need to think about childproofing the house. It’s a nice problem to have….

I hope that your Thanksgiving will be a safe and happy one, filled with love, laughter, and way too much food. I, you, ALL of us, deserve it. Enjoy…. ;-)
