My kid and my money go to Alabama, and...wait a minute...

(Click picture to embiggenate)

So I was watching ESPN’s College GameDay from Tuscalossa, AL, for a few minutes yesterday morning. The show was broadcast from a parking lot in front of the University of Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium. Given the hype leading up to last night’s Alabama-LSU game (an ugly 9-6 LSU victory in OT), there were several thousand fans jammed into a parking lot directly behind the set. As it happens every week, there were the usual collection of crazy signs (I thought the “Fire Craig James” sign was particularly inspired…though I don’t know what the sign-holder’s gripe with James might be) designed to attract the camera’s attention. Those weren’t anything out of the ordinary…but what was with the guy holding a cardboard cutout of the state of Oregon with a green heart? Really? In Alabama? And then there was the guy waving a maroon Washington State University flag…the poor guy must have taken a wrong turn on his way to the Palouse, eh?
