A little light housekeeping....

My latest column is up at Oregon Sports News. In it, I ask Washington State University’s Cougar Nation if paying a football coach $2 million a year is really something to be proud of.

The WWJD redesign is nearing completion. James Bow (I recommend his column at the Kitchener Post) has done his usual bang-up job on the technical side of things, which justifies my decision to offshore my IT work. Accuse me of taking jobs from Americans if you will, but Canada is to the U.S. what PBR is to American beer: it’s almost the same thing…only with better hockey and superior health care. Anyone who has any suggestions/gripes/observations/large sums of cash they wish to unburden themselves of should feel free to contact me…unless you’re one of my numerous Nigerian relatives.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t also recognize the significant contributions of David Flanders from Syracuse, NY, whose artistic talents are responsible for the new mastheads. His creativity and the fact that he evidently has WAY too much free time has given WWJD a very distinctive look. Who knows? In time there may be even more mastheads. Stay tuned….

Though he hasn’t been involved in the redesign, I should also give a shout out to Brian Kane. Brian was responsible for switching my blog (in 2002 when it was still The People’s Republic of Seabrook) from hand-coded HTML to Movable Type. Yes, there actually was a time when I did the whole thing by hand and by myself. I shudder to think of it now; it was the literary equivalent of owning a megaphone but still communicating in smoke signals. Brian (anyone who rates the ingredients in Chex Mix is a true genius in my estimation) is perhaps my longest-tenured fan/reader…and he’s a world-class blogger in his own right. Check out Brian Kane Online…and tell him I sent you. He’ll wonder what nefarious and evil deeds I’m planning. ;-)

In this week’s “Pardon Me While I Toot My Own Horn” moment, I’ve learned that WWJD is now #1 AND #2 if you google “newt gingrich messiah complex.” Mama would be so proud….;-)
