Better to be thought a fool than to be Allen West and remove any lingering doubt

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Rep. Allen West (R- Floriduh)

“If Joseph Goebbels was around, he’d be very proud of the Democrat Party, because they have an incredible propaganda machine,” West told reporters during House votes Thursday afternoon. “Let’s be honest, you know, some of the people in the media are complicit with this and enabling them to get that type of message out.” […] “But let’s be very honest,” he added. “You have the president, who has an incredible megaphone and a platform, and he has people all across this country believing that the only people on Capitol Hill are House Republicans. He’s not talking anything about his controlled Senate. So, it’s a great propaganda machine. And I have to give him kudos for being able to leverage that.”

It might be a stretch (and impolite) to call Allen West the dumbest, most partisan, and least grounded in reality Teapublican in Congress, but he doesn’t miss the mark by much. In the thus far spectacularly inept tour de farce that is his Congressional career, West has distinguished himself for his rhetorical bomb throwing, his tenuous commitment to the truth…and now his willingness to invoke Godwin’s Law.

It’s not that I really give a damn about anything West has to say, because he has nothing even remotely positive to offer. His ignorant, intolerant, and intellectually dishonest brand of Right-wing politics is as pathetic as it is meaningless. West has added nothing to Congress, and I can’t think of a single legislative achievement that he can rightfully point to and claim as his own. Then again, his comedic potential is EPIC. Let’s face it; the man’s a comedy gold mine, even if it’s completely and totally unintentional.

Unfortunately, West’s latest comic enterprise is far less humorous than it is offensive. During George W. Bush’s Reign of Error ©, Republican were justifiably upset when those on the Left Photoshopped pictures of Our Glorious and Benevolent Leader © so that he appeared to be wearing Nazi regalia. Depicting ANYONE as a Nazi is offensive and incendiary, and I shared Republican anger at those who thought portraying a President as a Nazi was over the top and uncalled for. Of course, what’s good for the goose isn’t always good for the gander. Judging by the plethora of graphic portrayals of Barack Obama as a Nazi, Republican outrage was clearly one-sided and openly hypocritical.

That Rep. West would see fit to describe the Democratic Party in a manner that compares them to Nazis is distasteful, disgusting, and just plain wrong. If a Democrat did the same thing to Republicans, who do you think would be leading the cries of righteous outrage? Yes, Allen West would without a doubt be leading the torches-and-pitchforks brigade in their quest for a pound of flesh.

And when it comes to propaganda, West seems to be conveniently forgetting that the GOP and the Tea Party have Fox Noise Channel in its corner. When he begins excoriating the Democrats for their “great propaganda machine”, he might want to remember that he’s one of the driving forces of the GOP’s “hypocrisy machine” and the beneficiary of the GOP Propaganda Network.

Pot…meet Kettle. It looks a lot like Rep. Allen West.
