Doctor, could I have Obama Derangement Syndrome?

Speaking on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, Santorum was asked by George Stephanopoulos to explain his comment at a rally in Iowa on Monday that in international conflicts, Obama has “sided with our enemies on almost every single one.”…. Santorum doubled down on his comments, saying Obama has “appeased and pandered” on the international stage and that the killing of bin Laden in Pakistan, presented as a foreign-policy success by the White House, was set in motion by the Bush administration. Santorum said that operations to kill bin Laden and other al Qaeda leaders were “missions that were defined” by the Bush administration.” Obama “simply went on and executed those decisions,” he said.

One of the truly disturbing and disquieting trends of this election season is the decreasing importance of things like, truth, facts, evidence, and reality. There a strong undercurrent within the Republican party which actively ignores the truth, disregards facts, softpedals evidence, and avoids reality at all costs. This is particularly true when it comes to how the GOP views and defines Barack Obama, who, if you believe some Conservatives, is a spawn of Satan who was suckled by Nancy Pelosi and schooled at the feet of Barney Frank. It’s absurd and has no basis in sanity, much less reality…but there you have it. Republicans hate Barack Obama beyond all sense and reason, and the mere fact that the President lives and breathes is indisputable evidence of his hatred of America and all that we hold dear.

Recently, Rick Santorum has made a point of accusing President Obama of everything from treason to incompetence to HIV/AIDS to the kidnapping and killing of the Lindbergh baby. That a Presidential candidate can with a straight face and in all seriousness accuse the President of treason is beyond insulting and objectionable…and yet the Mainstream Media refuses to take Santorum to task. If a Democrat had done the same thing to George W. Bush, the weeping and gnashing of teeth would have been hurt from Conservative media outlet to shining Conservative media outlet. The outrage would have been loud, long, and focused on said Democrat like a Two-Minute Hate.

Santorum isn’t the only Republican to engage in such over the top rhetoric, but he’s certainly turning it into an art form. Attributing the killing of Osama bin-Laden to Bush, Santorum represents a Teapublican strain of sheer lunacy that refuses to credit the President for anything positive and blames him wholly for everything they see as wrong with America today. It’s the textbook definition of Obama Derangement Syndrome, which renders those thus afflicted completely incapable of functioning on a rational level. This shouldn’t be surprising when you consider that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has said that Job One is making sure that Barack Obama is a one-term President. That’s right; not unemployment, not infrastructure, not the recession- Job One is putting a Republican in the White House. That should tell you everything you need to know about today’s GOP. It’s not about what’s best for America. It’s about political power- first, last, and always.

Santortum, now flush with excitement and momentum from his strong showing in Iowa, is who he’s always been- intolerant, self-righteous, and hyper-religious. It’s just that Social Conservatives need a candidate now that Michele Bachmann’s thrown in the towel, and there’s no left for them except Santorum.

The problem with Santorum, as with so many rabid Social Conservatives, is that he’s long be infected with Obama Derangement Syndrome. He sees Barack Obama as incapable of accomplishing anything positive (and the locus of all that’s evil), so there’s no way that he could ever give the President credit for anything. Barack Obama could give a pack of Cub Scouts a personal tour of the White House, and Rick Santorum would be accusing him of attempting to poison their minds with his vile strain of anti-American Liberalism.

It would be nice if, somewhere along the way, we could rationally discuss the issues like adults. Unfortunately, those infected with Obama Derangement Syndrome are incapable of rationality or reason. And, thanks to Fox Noise Channel, there’s no known cure.

Is it any wonder I fear for the future of our country?
