Purity Bear: the more godly and moral (not to mention creepy) brother of Pedobear

(via Joe.My.God and Biodork)

This is a student made video saying that the best way to stay sexually pure is to wait until marriage. Having one partner is the God-approved way to enjoy sex.

I don’t know about you, but there’s something indescribably creepy about this video. Perhaps it’s the shoddy production values. Maybe it’s the poor acting. It might be the cheesy message.

Nah…actually, it’s that damned bear. That’s just creepy, like a “Chucky” doll, only with more fur.

Even scarier (and sillier), it seems that Valentine’s Day is also the Liberty Consel’s “Day of Purity“…’cuz if you don’t copulate like bunnies you’ll get to go to Heaven, right?

There are just a couple of questions I’d like to throw out for discussion. First, why is staying “sexually pure” so important? Is ensuring that someone is ignorant and unexperienced somehow serve the Lord? Does the Lord resent those who understand, respect, and appreciate the pleasures of sexual congress? Does having sex prior to marriage somehow result in “sexual pollution”? And if a personal can sexually pollute themselves, is there some sort of solvent that will, if not restore the brilliant whiteness of full purity, at least get the grey out?

Second, what’s this “God-approved way to enjoy sex”? I’m assuming it involves the missionary position, no kissing, and no enjoyment of the act…but perhaps I’m being a wee bit too cynical. I just can’t help but wonder if the “God-approved way to enjoy sex” is just some narrow-minded soul’s way of making certain that no one has more fun than he’s not having.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m all about and for sexual responsibility. That said, sex is a normal human function, and this is just another attempt by fearful, anti-fun zealots to force sex into a box so that the narrow-minded can exercise a high degree of social control over those less able to control their animal urges.

Here’s a novel idea: How about, instead of focusing on denying enjoyment of a basic human function, you focus on teaching responsibility? You know, things like responsible sexual behavior and etiquette? Why not teach safe sex techniques? Of course, I understand that abstinence is the safest sex known to man, but when done properly and responsibly, sex is a whole lot of fun. It’s one of the truly wonderful aspects of being human, and it seems a shame to deny a very basic part of one’s humanity because someone thinks it makes one more godly.

Being human shouldn’t have to be about denial. It shouldn’t always have to be about delayed gratification. Yes, our bodies and our emotions should be treated with respect and dignity. Nonetheless, sex can be and is a wondrous thing. It’s time that certain segments of humanity stopped treating it as if it’s dirty, nasty, and sinful.
