Recession: A method for ensuring the servant class know their place

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Andrea Tantaros

Fox News’ hosts are known for insensitive remarks….. During Fox News’ “The Five,”, co-host Andrea Tantaros described why she believes the recession was a good thing for this generation of children. She explained that the millennial generation feels too entitled, and because of that kids “need an attitude adjustment.”…. She also stated she “think[s] the recession was good for kids” because they’ve been “humbled a little bit.”…. Of course, she’s not talking about children in wealthy households, like the ones her and her co-workers can afford. She’s talking about the 15 million children living below the poverty line, or more than 1 in 5 total. Children living in wealthy households don’t have the same hardships as children living in poverty, such as not having enough food to eat and going to bed hungry. Children in impoverished households are also more likely to suffer from stress and depression, because they often worry about their parents financial situations.

On the one hand, I could really care less what Andrea Tantaros has to say about anything. She’s little more than the sort of reliably Conservative eye candy who looks good in a short skirt. Tantaros (Ann Coulter with a sense of humor) is the sort of “high-brow” journalist Fox News Channel is proud to have in their stable of stunning, vacuous cheesecake. It’s a collection of allegedly capable, professional journalists who also just happen to be female…and hot. Hey, it’s not as if FNC is going to attract viewers with fair and balanced journalism….

Tantaros, famous for opining as to how feminists don’t get laid, is now putting forth a new and novel theory about one of the truly good things about the recession- the servant class has been shown in no uncertain terms where there place is and who their masters are. I mean, how else will the children of the poor and middle classes come to understand that their role in life, whether they like it or not, is to serve the interests of the landed gentry?

It’s easy for Tantaros to pontificate from her well-appointed perch, looking as if she’s never been denied anything in her life. OK, so that might seem a cheap shot, but I find it difficult not to be offended by someone who clearly wants for nothing but has no problem with holding forth on the plight of the poor and middle class. Listening to her is like listening to someone scrape their fingernails down a chalkboard. If Tantaros had anything of value to say, I could at least grant her that…but she’s made her bones off throwing rhetorical bombs and insulting those she happens to disagree with. Hey, if you can’t beat them on facts and logic, why not tear them down with personal insults and gratuitous, mean-spirited asides? (Hey, kids! Did you know that gay history is brainwashing?? Andrea Tantaros said so!!)

Like most FNC talking heads, Tantaros isn’t above playing fast and loose with the truth if she can piss off a few Liberals and score some points with FNC’s viewers. Like wondering how a Sesame Street puppet could ever go hungry, given all of this country’s entitlement programs. Or claiming that ‘Hatred Towards Conservative Women is Last Acceptable Misogyny in U.S.’. Right; you just go on claiming to be victims…assuming you don’t want people to take you seriously.

Yeah, it’s got to be tough be an attractive Conservative woman these days, especially on Fox News Channel. Of course, appearing on set in a short, tight skirt isn’t exactly a great way to enhance credibility when you begin to claim that you’re a victim of “Liberal misogyny.” Somehow, Conservative women crying about discrimination and misogyny, especially those who participate in gratuitous displays of cheesecake on FNC, rings pretty hollow when you’re a willing participant in that which you decry.

The problem with Tantaros’ pontificating about the recession is that she reveals herself to be a classist of the worst order. Follow her logic, and you’d have to think that the recession was a good thing, because it’s shown children of the poor and middle class that their role in life is to serve people like her. I realize that Tantaros is the descendant of Greek immigrants. She may well have worked her way up from nothing. Unfortunately, she’s clearly forgotten her roots, whatever they may be, and now views herself as to the manor born.

Hey, look; if the children of the poor and the middle class insist on trying to better themselves, who’s going to clean Tantaros’ Manhattan penthouse? Or do her laundry? Or serve at her parties?

Perhaps the recession really was God’s way of demonstrating to the servant class that they’d best remember their place…and stick to it? It seems to have been God’s way of confirming to Tantaros that she’s one of the Chosen class.
