Better to be thought an intolerant fool than to be Eric Bolling and...oh, never mind....

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Eric Bolling

Fox Business host Eric Bolling, of Muppets-equal-anti-capitalist-propaganda fame, invited Dan Barker, spokesman for the Wisconsin-based atheist group Freedom From Religion Foundation, to appear as a guest on Monday’s Follow the Money to discuss his organization’s request that the town of Athens, Texas remove their nativity scene. The FFRF becomes very active in December, protesting the violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment in terms of government favoritism regarding religion.

I understand that some Christians are committed to their faith. I think that commitment can be (and more often than not is) laudable. Talking the talk AND walking the walk is a powerful and admirable combination.

Unfortunately, that’s not what I’m here to talk about today. No, today’s “honoree” may well consider himself a Christian, but Eric Bolling lives his beliefs about as much as I eat the still-beating hearts of chickens. I’ve known more than a few committed Christians in my time, and they’re people of integrity, honesty, and surpassing tolerance and charity. They’re secure in their beliefs, even as they respect others who may believe differently. They understand that Christianity is not a one-size-fits-all proposition, nor is anyone who colors outside those lines by definition a heretic unworthy of even the most basic courtesy and consideration.

Sir, sir, I have to stop you. This is my show. See, the name of this show is Follow the Money with Eric Bolling. I can’t allow you to talk like that on my show. You’re absolutely wrong. You, sir, are denigrating the name of Jesus Christ on my show. I’m not going to let it happen. I’m going to say goodbye to you right now…Bye bye.

Bolling seems to care little for honest discussion and debate. For him, any speech that doesn’t completely resonate with his beliefs is incorrect, blasphemous, and worthy only of being shouted down.

If you’re so insecure in your belief that you have that can’t stomach the thought that anyone could even entertain the idea of thinking differently…well, I find it difficult to feel anything but sorry for you. As for Bolling, he wouldn’t recognize the teachings of Jesus Christ if the Lord showed up on his front stoop.

Better to be thought a fool and a hyper-religious zealot than to be Eric Bolling and remove any lingering doubt, eh?
