Today's "WTF??" moment": How to tell that you have WAY too much time on your hands

Hobbies of any kind are boring except to people who have the same hobby. This is also true of religion, although you will not find me saying so in print.

No, I haven’t gotten around to planking, which evidently is so 2011 as to be completely gauche and déclassé. Internet memes tend to be experiencing the online equivalent of a death rattle before I manage to take notice of them. I’m just that unhip, and I’ve got better things to do thing indulge in the latest pointless time-suck.

And them something comes along that’s so off-the-wall, so silly, so utterly and completely pointless that it takes my breath away. I mean, how else can you explain and/or rationalize cutting a hole in a piece of bread and then putting said piece of bread on the head of a cat? “Breading” appears to be the latest Internet “meme”, which is Latin for “I’ve got WAY too much time on my hands, so let’s see what sort of stupid, pointless activity I can risk life, limb, and/or dignity over?”

Once upon a time there was Oolong, a rabbit in Japan who was famous for his calm, long-suffering demeanor. Oolong needed that because his owner thought it hilarous to put all manner of items, mostly food, on his head and then photograph the resulting silliness. Poor Oolong, who is no longer with us, become an Internet icon (he’s the profile picture for the WWJD Facebook page…yes, there really IS one).

How far has the silliness gone? Well, when breading has its own Facebook page, you know it’s an official Internet meme. May God (if She in fact exists) save us from ourselves….

Oh, and if you want to know if you have too much time on your hands, there’s a very simple test. If you find yourself cutting holes in pieces of bread and then adorning your cat’s head with the aforementioned doctored bread slices…you have WAY too much time on your hands.

Knock yourself out, kids.
