Doonesbury: What some newspapers refuse to let you see (3.17.12)

This week, Garry Trudeau’s Doonesbury story line has been about the war on women and reproductive health care, skewering Texas (my favorite target and former home) and its new sonogram law. Some newspapers, including The Oregonian here in Portland, are declining to run the strips. I’m running them here at WWJD because it’s a story that must be told. Enjoy them…but remember that this is not merely an effective attempt at humor- not that Texas isn’t ridiculously easy to ridicule (it’s a target-rich environment). There really are Conservative, middle-aged White men who believe they have the right to define women as sperm receptacles and rightfully the property of men. AND who think they know better than medical professionals how to handle women’s reproductive health care. News flash: shaming women is not an effective way to influence and win the votes of women.

Uh…if you don’t have a vagina, how about leaving reproductive decisions to those who do?
