Moderates didn't leave the Republican Party; the Republican Party left the moderates

If you’ve found yourself thinking that the GOP has lost it’s freakin’ mind…well, you’re going to find that you’re not far wrong. When a moderate like Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) feels the need to leave the building because she’s sick of the intolerance and craziness she sees in her party, you have to know things are bad. These days, “moderate” in Republispeak translates as “traitor.”

Time was when the GOP was a fairly moderate right-of-center aggregation. Today, the Tea Party has frightened so many Republicans so thoroughly that the stampede to the Right has taken a frightening turn. Evidently, the Right side of the political spectrum has no end; it continues on into infinity and beyond…and there’s no longer a place for decent, reasonable Republicans like Snowe. That doesn’t bode well for the GOP’s long-term prospects, and it certainly doesn’t bode well for the future of this country.

Before long, our government may well be owned by the Koch brothers and a few other ultra-Conservative billionaires who will continue steering the GOP to the Right until it finally falls off a cliff.

The best democracy money can buy, eh??
