Rush Limbaugh: Schadenfreude is just another word for dancing on the grave of his career

Normally, I at least try to keep my Schadenfreude flare-ups to myself. I endeavor to take enjoyment in the richly-deserved misfortune of others without drawing attention to myself…mostly because I don’t want to seem small and petty. Lord knows I get accused of that enough as it is without setting myself up.

And then there are times when I feel like shouting to the four winds when someone takes a tumble…if only because they so richly deserved to be taken down and destroyed. In this case, Rush Limbaugh is solely responsible for his own demise, and I doubt I’m the only one taking some pleasure out of watching his empire crumble. Advertisers continue to jump ship in the wake of his vile, misogynistic, three-day-long verbal assault on Sandra Fluke…and I’m looking forward to seeing him reduced to managing a Dairy Queen in West Palm Beach. Then again, I’m just small and petty enough to want to see Limbaugh face the consequences of his years of ignorant hate speech.

Limbaugh’s brother David may be thinking that Lefties are conducting a jihad against El Rushbo, but the reality is that Limbaugh’s demise is his own doing. His vile, disgusting assault on Sandra Fluke, and the fake, insincere apology he offered once he realized that advertisers were leaving him at the altar en masse have made him toxic to advertisers. Those wanting to exact their pound of flesh from Limbaugh for his sexism and misogyny have bombarded his advertisers with demands for them to stop supporting Limbaugh or face being boycotted.

Karma’s a real…well, you know where that’s going, right??

For those who think that Limbaugh is getting a raw deal, I’d ask only that you explain one thing: What about the 53 attacks that Limbaugh hasn’t apologized for?

As I said about Andrew Breitbart after his death, Limbaugh could have chosen to be positive. He could have worked to appeal to our better angels as he worked to create a world that reflect his values. Instead, he built his career on the soft sand of bigotry, misogyny, sexism, hate speech, and rage. He could have chosen to build; instead he chose to destroy. Now it all seems to be coming undone. I’m going to try not to enjoy it too much…but I probably won’t be successful. Once again, as happened with Glenn Beck, karma comes home to roost…and blaming Barack Obama isn’t going to bail Limbaugh out.

Schandenfreude…it’s not just for breakfast anymore.
